Glannes is a village whose name comes from the Celtic word " glennos" meaning valley. The Petite Guenelle river runs through the village and merges with the Charonne river to become the Guenelle river to the east of the village. A little further north, 19 hectares of vineyards, planted with Chardonnay, extend over the Côte de la Bertaude and the Mont Vignereux. The village was greatly affected by the First World War. Burned by the Germans, it was partially destroyed. A few years later, on the night of August 4 to 5, 1944, it was the scene of the crash of a Royal Air Force plane, the Halifax, which left no survivors. A monument was dedicated to the nine airmen, inaugurated on May 11, 1947.
