Dampierre was the stronghold of several prestigious families. The first known was among the largest to the counts of Champagne. In the th century one of his stems took the head of the Bourbon house, the other of the county of Flanders. To see, this beautiful residence is perfectly classical preceded by an elegant «châtelet» which dates from the late th century. The present castle is the work of the Picot of Dampierre, descendants of Louis Picot, the first president of the Court of Aid, who buys the land from Dampierre in 1526. François Picot, marquis of Dampierre, rebuilt the castle around 1660 on plans attributed to François Mansart.
