The arboretum of Rethel gathers a hundred of trees and common shrubs of the Rethel area
The Rethel arboretum consists of a hundred trees and common shrubs from the rethelois country - buis, beech, groove, pedunculated oak, and rarer species - ketmia of Syria, American starch and ginkgo biloba, also known as the "40-ECU tree", which belongs to the oldest species of fossil tree living on Earth. At the end of the promenade you can climb the hundred steps of the belveved. This metal observatory was set up at the top of the artificial butte of 130 m high where, once, Grosse Tour du château - 10 m tall and 15 m in diameter - dominated the Aisne Valley in the xie century.
