SAINT-RÉMI DE LAVAL-DIEU ABBEY
Located at the "Mouth of Semoy" at the confluence of the Meuse and the Semoy, the church of Saint-Rémi de Laval-Dieu is one of the oldest premonstratensian abbeys. Founded in 1128 by Wither, Earl of Rethel and many times destroyed by the conquerors, the church was completely restored following a criminal fire at the end of the th century. Its green framework softens the harsh of the remains bombarded by the germain house which was the west wing, which remains the entrance and five arcades. Dedicated to Saint Rémi, it features beautiful th-century woodwork and remarkable stalls. The facade of brick, pure baroque style, features decorative stone elements and a plume decorated with fire pots. It was on its 1771 organ buffet that the monk German musician Hauser launched Etienne-Nicolas Méhul to Music. The Canons Premonstratensian community will be dissolved in the French Revolution and their property sold.
