MARTYRDOM OF ILLY

On September 1, 1870 in the morning, the riders of General Garçonne try to prevent the Germans from circle them in defence of this plateau. They load but they fail. They're leaving Illy's calvaire, arriving at Illy's wash, and then retreated to the Bois. A key position for the French that soldiers had to abandon after more than three hours of struggle and with the loss of 15 officers and 136 men. Splendid panorama to observe!
