Cave champignonnière des roches de Montrichard Val de Cher, offering a must-see tour of the underground town.

Here's a visit not to be missed. Enter one of the countless tunnels that make up a veritable labyrinth over 120 kilometers long. These are the remains of the quarries used for centuries to extract Bourré stone, the exceptional quality tuffeau used to build the great châteaux of the Loire Valley, such as Chambord and Chenonceaux, and give them their distinctive dazzling white appearance. These long, temperature-controlled galleries have even sheltered the destitute, and others have been transformed into troglodytic dwellings. While elsewhere in the valley, the caves are mainly used by winegrowers to age their wines, in Bourré mushrooms have been harvested for over a century. You'll visit the rooms where button mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms and blue foot mushrooms enjoy perfectly adapted temperature and humidity conditions. But what makes these cellars unique is the extraordinary underground city carved into the rock. All the houses and craftsmen of a small village from the last century emerge from the walls. It's a monumental work of art, where you can enjoy looking for squirrels among the stone vegetation. A must-see! An adjoining gallery allows visitors to rediscover lost trades. Mushrooms in all their forms can be tasted on site for groups, or at home by visiting the boutique
