The Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park, created in 1998, covers 1,900 km² and 74 communes in the Dordogne and Haute-Vienne departments, and organizes a wide range of activities, particularly in summer. The Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park straddles two départements, Dordogne and Haute-Vienne, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It boasts 4 tourist attractions: the Limousin bocage, the Massif des feuillardiers, the Jumilhac plateau and Isle valleys, and the Périgord valleys. This unspoilt region, with its human dimensions and rich heritage, is home to almost 50,000 inhabitants and 190,000 hectares.
A Terra Aventura geocaching circuit takes visitors around the Maison du Parc, near the Etang de la Barde. Visitors can take part in a variety of family workshops, supervised by specialized animators. They are both fun and educational. Themes range from fishing and archery to electric mountain biking, nature games and treasure hunts.
The route de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle (voie de Vézelay) crosses the park (a free guide is available, co-published with the Département). A large loop of the Périgord-Limousin Park is signposted, with over 200 km of paths to discover (a free guide published by the Park and the Département is available).
The Park also takes part in national programs such as the Nuit de la chauve-souris (bat night). The Park's website offers a wide range of downloadable documentation (orchid discovery, tourist map, arts and crafts guide, etc.).
A new mobile application, "Mon Parc Périgord-Limousin", lets you discover natural environments and species, heritage sites, a calendar of outings and chat with Park staff.
Several audio and video-guided tours on the themes of forests, legends, castles, flora and fauna, as well as heritage in the Dordogne, are available from Nontron, Saint-Sulpice-de-Mareuil and Saint-Pierre-de-Frugie.
Hot-air balloon flights from La Coquille allow you to discover the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park from the air. It's an enchanting voyage of discovery that's gentle, silent and original, with dawn and dusk light being the best for this kind of experience.
