CANAL BRIDGE
A bridge-canal linking the Canal à la Loire to the Canal de Briare, with an architectural curiosity that leaves no one indifferent.
The 662-meter-long pont-canal de Briare is a bridge carrying the Canal Latéral à la Loire over the Loire, a delicate royal river. Léonce-Abel Mazoyer (1848-1910) worked particularly hard on the architecture that surrounds it, transporting us to the famous Alexandre III bridge in Paris, with its columns at each end enriched by bronze sculptures where dragons seem to carry levitating lampposts on the heads of obedient swans. It's a delight to walk or boat across. Until 2003, it was the world's longest mechanical canal bridge. A wonderful memory!
