Created in 1937, the Basketwork Cooperative is the largest French manufacturer of wicker basketry. It controls the entire production process, from the cultivation of the wicker to the marketing of the manufactured articles. It has been awarded the distinction Entreprise du patrimoine vivant (Living Heritage Company). Its entire range of products is certified Origine France Garantie. Around fifty basket makers make up the cooperative, some of whom have been awarded the title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France (Best Craftsman in France).

Villaines-les-Rochers is home to the Vannerie Romand'art workshop. Catherine Romand, who graduated from the basketry school in 1981, offers unique creations in art basketry. Creations include furniture, baskets, cradles, live wicker and sculptures. Romand'art basketry can work on projects from all over France. Recent creations include a 4-meter diameter lampshade, an illuminated sculpture and a new-generation bench for cities. The workshop also offers courses for those wishing to learn basket-making techniques.
