7 kilometres from Azay-le-Rideau, halfway between Tours and Chinon, stands the magnificent troglodyte village of Villaines-les-Rochers. It is here that wicker has been cultivated and woven for centuries. The basket-making activity has existed since the 7th century and represents a third of the national production. A know-how which was transmitted from generation to generation and which is now opened to young people in training. Its articles are used today in the decoration, the bakery, the hotel trade... You can admire them at the Cooperative's shop but also discover the production process through guided tours.
