This castle is a magnificent architectural witness of a new art of living, combining prestige and security.

Rebuilt in the late 15th century on a site fortified since Frankish times, Château de La Guerche illustrates the evolution from defensive castle to pleasure residence, combining prestige and security. Its elegant architecture conceals vaulted basements housing former granaries, a seigniorial prison and an artillery room. The view from the bridge over the Creuse is breathtaking. You can then take the ancient Roman road leading to the hillside and the Rond du Chêne forest. A must-see between Touraine and Poitou.

Great little chateau on the Creuse river that's worth a visit if you're in the area. Guide is lovely and did the tour in French and English. Learned a lot about the history of the place, especially from the graffiti etched into the walls. The circular cannon room in the tower is worth the admission price alone. It's obviously someone's home but they are really welcoming. Also a good way of keeping cool in the hot weather.

De passage dans la région, nous avons visité le château de la Guerche ! La guide, passionnée et investit, nous a refait vivre l'histoire de ce château. Visite des caves, des greniers, et de quelques pièces à l'intérieur du château. Dommage qu'on ai pas pu en voir d'avantage. Un château qui reste vivant malgré le temps et sûrement des moyens moindres que les prestigieux châteaux de la Loire ! A visiter en famille ou entre amis !
