Visit the Porte des Tours, the most imposing gateway to the bastide town of Domme: former guard room and Templar prison.
The Porte des Tours, dating from the early 14th century, is the most imposing of the bastide's three gates (its towers are 8.50 m in diameter!). These two half-towers were used as a guard room, but also as a prison for 70 Templars. In fact, it contains some mysterious and remarkable graffiti... The mystery of who did them, and what they mean, remains, and adds a little more excitement to the discovery of these historical testimonies. A guided tour is highly recommended to learn more about this unique place.
