COURTYARD CASTLE

Castles to visit

Originally, the castle depended on the county of Chartres. One can think that it was rebuilt in the years 1530-1550 instead of a medieval fortress, for Jacques d'Avaugour. Thereafter, the Montmorency were the owners. Courtalain was transmitted by inheritance in 1862 to the Gontaut-Biron family who is still the owner. In this exceptional setting, a beautiful 29 th-century orangerie welcomes a conference and meeting area as well as a hotel with rooms. Single, double, triple or quadruple rooms, from 88 € per night for a double room. The atmosphere is authentic and friendly. A suite in the castle for 190 € at night. 8 € breakfast per person. Houses furnished with 3 rooms for five people, kitchen corner for 160 € on weekends. Swimming pool, large park, ping-pong, mini-golf, fishing for activities.

SAINT-LUBIN CHURCH

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

On the central square of the village, the church faces the town hall. The religious building is very surprising since it is built in three different parts: The central part built in the th century incorporates the canons of the local architecture at that time, especially the use of the local stone stone, the two sides of the side, with more modern influences of the Gothic and Renaissance periods. Next to the church, the Tourist Information Point awaits visitors and includes a tour circuit to discover all the outstanding points of Arrou.

RESTING AREA

Works of art to see

Below the castle and the town centre of Courtalain, a pleasant area is available to take a break before visiting the town. Located on the edge of the river Yerre, this place houses washing machines that are still running through water from the river. There is also a road mill whose mechanisms always operate and circulate water. Finally, picnic tables make this area a good starting point for walking in the surrounding woods and follow part of the Balade walk.

RUFFIN FORTRESS

Castles to visit

The fortress of Bois Ruffin, located in the countryside of the Beauce dunoise between Arrou and Chapelle-Royale, blends the defensive walls of the upper Middle Ages and the plush farmhouses of the modern era. The whole is a remarkable site of the Eure-et-Loir that is seen by far thanks to the big round tower that rises in the middle of the courtyard closed by a grid and surrounded by ditches filled with water. The fortress was classified as a historic monument in 1924.
