BOIZARD LOCKS

Works of art to see

More than 80 kilometres. It is the length of the canal Louis XIV wanted to create to feed Versailles with the waters of the Eure. This pharaoh project, several remains remaining in Eure-et-Loir, had to take its source in the commune of Pontgouin. It is in this area, somewhere in the forest surrounding the village, on the edge of the Boizard pond, that you can see the locks intended to regulate the flow of the river by creating water restraint in the valley. Seven other locations, between Pontgouin and Maintenon, were identified as crossing points of the unfinished Louis XIV Canal
