MALIBU SEAFOOD
Read moreOpened in 1967, this popular institution deals every day with a long line of customers, attracted by its fresh produce. The concept of the place is summed up by this phrase: "The reason we don't serve breakfast is that we're out to catch lunch". Clam chowder, grilled seafood, crab salad... The menu offers a fine selection of fish and shellfish served as sandwiches or by the plate. Order inside and sit out on one of the terraces overlooking the ocean.
THE BLACK SHEEP
Read moreA little off the bustling State Street, this gastro-pub offers every evening a beautiful menu of seasonal and organic dishes, blends of European and Asian inspiration. A tasty and original result in a contemporary and friendly setting. The Black Sheep is a perfect place to enjoy a refined dinner without déplumer.
CAFÉ GRATITUDE
Read moreAlthough Café Gratitude is the second to open its doors in Los Angeles - in 2012 - its values come to us from the San Francisco Bay Area. The company's promise: vegan, environmentally-friendly and tasty dishes. And they've kept their promise, with a menu as healthy as it is delicious, featuring bowls, salads, sandwiches, smoothies and juices. We like this address for its pretty patio and its location, a 10-minute walk from Venice Beach, but the chain is also established in the small Larchmont district.
WOODHOUSE FISH CO.
Read moreThis new California-style seafood restaurant is located in Pacific Heights. Specialties include oysters, crabs and mussels to take away or eat in, crispy sandwiches (bay shrimp and avocado, crabmeat rolls). The fish tacos with choice of black beans and pico de gallo are delicious, as is the San Franciscan Cioppino with mussels, clams, crab, cod, shrimp and scallops.) Everything is very hearty, so don't bite off more than you can chew. The dining room is pleasant and bright, and prices are reasonable.
Seasurf Fish Co
Read moreWe don't come here for the quality of the service - Seasurf Fish Co operates like a fast-food restaurant - but for the quality of the seafood and fish. Our favorite is the warm lobster roll served with melted butter: generous, tasty... Everything we love! You'll also find poke bowls, tacos and burritos, as well as grilled fish, pasta and salads. The catch: these fresh products are served in disposable trays and plates, with disposable cutlery. A good choice for a quick lunch between two visits.
HUMBOLDT BAY PROVISIONS
Read moreA large modern wooden counter, red brick walls and a very friendly atmosphere, like a vacation: welcome to Humboldt Bay Provisions. Oysters from the bay of the same name are delivered daily to the establishment, before being served raw or cooked, as desired, with their mignonette sauce. The restaurant also offers some cheeses and spreads and, above all, an impressive wine list. An excellent address, where you will certainly have a good time.
BAR CRUDO
Read moreThis minimalist restaurant with its attractive metal counter is all about raw seafood. Delicious plates of scallops, tuna, butterflyfish, etc., all raw, but also oysters to delight your palate. Fish arrivals are local and sustainable. These feasts are accompanied by a (very good) glass of white wine. You can also enjoy the superbly stocked seafood platters, or a few hot dishes like the classic San Francisco chowder soup.
PROVIDENCE
Read moreProvidence is renowned for being the best seafood restaurant in the United States. Without exaggeration, the plates here resemble masterpieces. The food is as beautiful to contemplate as it is delicious to savor: each dish is of rare finesse, executed with unparalleled skill. As the tasting menu changes frequently, it's difficult to recommend a particular dish; what's certain is that you'll come away from your evening amazed, with your taste buds full of fish. A great address.
MILLIE'S CAFE
Read moreLooking for a good breakfast or an American-style brunch? Look no further: Millie's Cafe is a reference in the field. If you want to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the place, ask to sit at the counter, opposite the kitchen, where the chefs are busy. Otherwise, the small adjacent dining room and the sidewalk terrace could not be nicer. However, you will have to wait in line, especially on weekends, starting at 10 am. A little tip: if you come alone, you'll have to go in front of everyone else.
THE ALBRIGHT
Read moreRight at the beginning of the Santa Monica Pier, where the crowds thicken, stands this family-run address, which has been in business for 40 years. As with many Californian establishments, The Albright is a fast-casual affair, with fast-food-style ordering and payment at the counter, and plates similar to those of a traditional restaurant. Here, the food is tasty, the oysters fresh. On the menu: a wide variety of seafood and raw, fried or grilled fish, as well as burgers, rolls, pokés and ceviches - to name but a few.
Zinc Cafe & Market
Read moreHealthy, gourmet dishes: that's the challenge taken up by this excellent address, located in the heart of Laguna Beach. Take a seat at one of the tables on the small, flower-filled terrace for a tasty spinach, feta and roasted tomato omelette, avocado toast, a poached egg, fromage frais and avocado bowl, or delicious muffins, scones and cookies in a variety of flavors. Excellent value for money. The only drawback is the lack of an ocean view, generally sought after by daytime visitors.
FISHERMAN'S OUTLET
Read moreAt Fisherman's Outlet, the food is served on paper plates and concrete picnic tables... But don't let that put you off: this market and its seafood café serve better food than the chic restaurants. We recommend the delicious charcoal-cooked fish, or the lobster, one of the best dishes on the menu. Made up of workers and families who've been coming here for three generations, the clientele contrasts with the new "bobo" Downtown, giving rise to an atmosphere that's well worth discovering.
LOS BAGELS
Read moreServing delicious bagels since 1984. There are several options: choose from the à la carte menu or make your own sandwich. Butter, jam, cream cheese, guacamole, salmon, goat's cheese, hummus, tofu, pesto, jalapeño, smoked turkey, bacon, carrots, tomatoes, olives, cucumbers, capers... The list of ingredients is long. If you're really hungry, we recommend one of the scrambagels, a bagel prepared with scrambled eggs. All to be enjoyed in a pretty red-brick setting with a relaxed atmosphere.
RIVA FISH HOUSE
Read moreRiva Fish House takes its name from a small Italian village on the Ligurian coast, Riva Trigoso. The menu therefore makes a few nods to the country from which it takes its inspiration, with a nice selection of various pastas. In addition to all these tempting proposals, Riva is worth a visit for its perfect location on the Santa Cruz pier, with a breathtaking view.
