It is easy to stretch your legs without having to open your wallet. Indeed, walking remains the best way to discover the region. Cyclists will find here an environment favorable to cycling expeditions. The cycle paths are well developed and signposted, the coastline and the plain are perfectly suited to two-wheeled rides and even in the mountains, the soft paths follow the valley bottoms. If you are not afraid of going up and down and if your calves can handle the significant differences in altitude, you will find several cycling routes in the Alps. In addition to bike rental companies, many hotels offer free bikes to their guests

Swimming, bathing and water sports can be practiced on the coast and in some mountain lakes and rivers. While some beaches in the resorts charge a fee, many are free and offer the opportunity to swim laps or splash around quietly for hours.

What's very local

In winter, enjoy the ski resorts of Piancavallo, Forni di Sopra, Ravascletto or Tarvisio, a two-hour drive from Trieste... or opt for those in neighboring Slovenia! In the summer, spend Sunday at the sea with your family for a refreshing swim and an ice cream by the water.

Accompaniment by a hiking guide requires prior reservation. The same applies to access to the golf club in Lignano Sabbiadoro, for example, or to the thermal baths in Arta Terme.

Main events

Piancavallo is the venue in winter for alpine skiing competitions, some of them of international level. Tarvisio has also hosted the Women's Alpine Skiing World Cup on several occasions

In the cycling sector, the Giro d'Italia, the second most important cycling competition after the Tour de France, regularly stops in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
