Train

There are two adjoining stations, one is an older railway station with a renovated historical building, the other is a fairly basic bus station with a large parking lot for departures and arrivals behind the train station. The railway traffic concerns the Italian cities (Gorizia, Udine, Treviso, Venice, Rome...) while the buses assure connections with the airport of Trieste and Venice-Mestre and for Germany, Austria, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia.

TRIESTE TRASPORTI

Public transport

Numerous bus lines connect the city with the surrounding area and provide urban transport in Trieste. In addition to the network, there is the historical tramway. Built in 1902, the Opicina streetcar was one of the symbols of Trieste. It connected the city center to the locality of Villa Opicina and went up to the high plateau of Carso (breathtaking panorama on the gulf). But in August 2016, two cars of line 2 collided head-on. The result: nine injuries, ongoing investigations, and the line, which was supposed to reopen in early 2020, is still at a standstill.

AEROPORT TRIESTE - FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA

Airline and services

Air connections to Brussels-Charleroi, Frankfurt, London, Rome... The G51 bus runs to Trieste and Udine, the G26 to Grado, the G01 to Gorizia and the G52 to Lignano Sabbiadoro (timetables and fares on the local Trasporto pubblico website). The airport is also connected to Ljubljana by road. Numerous car rental agencies are available at the airport, while the railway station serves the Trieste-Venice line and links up with Udine.

PORTO DI TRIESTE

Boat and ferry

Second only to Genoa in Italy, the port of Trieste is a major hub for intercontinental trade and shipping. Its history dates back to the 18th century, when tea and coffee were shipped here. Enlarged several times, it is now divided between Porto Vecchio and three industrial terminals. From the passenger terminal, ferries run regularly to Grado, Muggia and the Friuli coast, as well as to Croatia and Turkey. A large aquarium takes center stage.
