The "topo" goes to Hendaye between 6am and 9:45pm (two departures per hour) and at night from Saturday to Sunday (with a departure every 2 hours). It also connects Donostia to Bilbao, but the journey is much longer than by bus: count on about 2h30 of travel, against 1h15 by bus... A new topo station "Centro-La Concha" should be opened soon.

Read moreLas Encartaciones is a town in northern Spain known for its network of narrow-gauge local trains operated by FEVE. FEVE, which stands for Ferrocarriles de Vía Estrecha, is a subsidiary of RENFE, Spain's national railroads. FEVE trains serve the regions of Bilbao, Gijón, León and Santander, as well as west to Ferrol. Popular routes include Bilbao to Santander and Oviedo to Ferrol. FEVE trains offer comfortable second-class seats, but there is no on-board catering service. Children up to the age of 7 benefit from reduced fares, and dogs weighing less than 10 kg are allowed to travel. There is no baggage limit on FEVE trains. People over 60 can benefit from discounts with the Tarjeta Dorada.

Read moreThe Euskotren regional trains, managed by the Basque Government, provide intercity connections in the Basque Country. The Bilbao-Bermeo line (E4) provides connections to Guernica and the Urdaibai reserve, among others. The Lasarte/Oria-Hendaia line (E2) - better known as the Topo - provides connections between San Sebastián and Hendaia in around 40 minutes. The Bilbao-San Sebastián line (E1) is useful for getting around the coastal municipalities (Zarautz, Zumaia, etc.), although the journey between the two cities is very long (more than 2.5 hours and 30 minutes).
ESTACIÓN SAN SEBASTIÁN-DONOSTIA
Read moreAlso known as Estación del Norte, this is San Sebastián's main railway station. Inaugurated in 1864, it is served by national and international lines, as well as by Cercanías regional trains to Pasaia, Tolosa, Beasain, Legazpi... (line C1). The "Y vasca" project, a high-speed line from Vitoria-Gasteiz to Bilbao and San Sebastian on the French border, is scheduled for completion in 2027.
