If the hermits occupying the abbey of the Terres de Saint Hilaire in the 17th century already practiced viticulture for their own consumption, the work of the vine seems never to have ceased since. Domaine du Grand Montmirail - Vignobles Cheron is a vineyard located in Gigondas, in the Rhône region. For five generations, the Cheron family has been committed to producing exceptional wines for moments of sharing and conviviality. Owner Yves Cheron, originally from Burgundy, brings his know-how and sense of elegance to the production of Rhône wines. The 70-hectare estate is dominated by the granite cliffs of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The main grape varieties are Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, used to produce red wines such as Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Beaumes de Venise. The estate also produces a natural sweet wine, Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. The vines are carefully cultivated, harvested by hand and vinified using the latest oenological techniques. The Domaine la Grand' Vigne has been passed down from father to son for five generations. Today, Roland Mistre, who is also an oenologist, is the conductor of the orchestra. In 2003, he relaunched the vinification at the domain after several decades spent in the cooperative. With the help of his sons, he manages 15 hectares of AOP coteaux-varois-en-provence.
