MONACO CATHEDRAL
South of the palace, going to the Oceanographic museum, this cathedral of néoroman style is built in the th century in white stone de la Beausoleil, at the exact location where the old church of St Nicholas once stood. Inside, a magnificent altarpiece painted by Louis Brea in the early th century: Saint Nicolas on his green episcopal throne surrounded by saints with a prédelle of 17 different paintings. The majestic altar of Carrara white marble filled with mosaics suggests the piétà of the white penance behind him. In the crypt, the tombs of the princes of Monaco. The tombs of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier III are found in the left part of the transept.
