ASSOCIATION TOURISME & HANDICAP

Service for the disabled

In 2001, the French Ministry of Tourism created the "Tourisme et Handicap" (Tourism and Handicap) state mark, as part of its policy to promote access to vacations for all and the integration of disabled people. It identifies tourist facilities and sites accessible to people with motor, visual, hearing or mental disabilities. The aim is twofold: to develop an adapted tourism offer, and to anticipate the legal obligation of accessibility. Indeed, the February 11, 2005 law on equal rights and opportunities, participation and citizenship for the disabled now obliges tourism and leisure service providers to take accessibility into account. In France today, there are some 4,200 approved sites, a list of which can be consulted on the Maison de la France websites.
