Contrary to popular belief, the history of this airfield didn't begin during the Second World War, when Corsica was renamed "USS Corsica" by the Americans. It was born with the aviation of the Front Populaire. It's a civilian airfield, restricted to Corsican-based and state aircraft. It is also used for aeronautical training, air sports, tourism and certain short-haul services.

L'aéroclub Bastia-Poretta is a flying club located in Lucciana, at Bastia Poretta airport in Haute-Corse. The association, founded in 2004, offers flight training for all levels, from beginner to private pilot. The flying school is accredited by the Fédération Française Aéronautique and has European ATO approval. Lessons are given by qualified volunteer instructors. The flying club also makes aircraft available for private flights or excursions in the Corsican skies. Aircraft rental rates vary according to the duration of the flight, and include fuel. To rent the aircraft privately, you need to be a member of the flying club and the FFA. Reservations are made online, and the chief pilot's agreement is required before departure.
