On March 25, the Greek National Day commemorates the revolution of March 25, 1821, which liberated Greece from the Turkish (Ottoman) Empire.
March 25th is one of the two Greek national holidays (along with October 28th). It commemorates the revolution of 25 March 1821, the beginning of the Greek War of Independence. Indeed, it was on this date that the Greeks began their uprising against the Ottoman Empire, which had occupied the country for 400 years. This national holiday is the occasion to take out the Greek flags, sold everywhere and that you will see blooming along the roads. There are many parades everywhere: students, schoolchildren in traditional costumes but also military.
