The decor is less kitschy than before, but the atmosphere has remained the same: jovial and original. Inaugurated in 1983, the Mercat de les Flors is a space dedicated to research, creation and dissemination of dance. Throughout the year, it offers an international program of contemporary dance, as well as musical events and theater. It occupies the premises of the former Agricultural Palace, built for the 1929 International Exhibition. This site was for a time the seat of the central flower market, which gave rise to its current name. Inside, note the dome, decorated with paintings by the famous artist Miquel Barceló.

Created in 1976 in the district of Gràcia, then in 2001 on the hill of Montjuïc, the Teatre Lliure is an independent creative space, which privileges contemporary texts and performances in Catalan. The headquarters of Montjuïc occupies the former Palace of Agriculture, built for the 1929 International Exhibition. In 2010, the headquarters of Gràcia (Carrer del Montseny, 47) reopens after several years of closure. This "free theatre", with its quality programming, is considered one of the most prestigious in Spain.

Founded in 1989 in the Gràcia district, this contemporary theater regularly presents works by Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter, Tom Stoppard or Sergi Belbel. The performances are usually in Catalan. The Sala Beckett moved in 2011 to the Poblenou district to occupy the headquarters of the former cooperative Pau i Justicia.
