The Hiatus gourmet restaurant has set up shop at the very top of Place Ville Marie. Needless to say, the panoramic view of the city is breathtaking! Opened by the same team that runs Cathcart and Jatoba, Hiatus is divided into three distinct floors: the Rose Orange terrace for aperitifs, a café-bar open all day long, and the restaurant with its blend of design and elegance. On the plate, top-flight Franco-Japanese cuisine incorporating many regional products. Discover it for the food and the view!

Even if the name implies the contrary, it is not a grocery store but a Thai restaurant, at least there is no more confusion possible now. Light wood benches, counter and white tiles on the wall, the place is design. The open kitchen serves traditional dishes like the timeless pad thai or delectable curries. The crispy chicken wings are as good as they are spicy, you've been warned. Next to the Jean-Talon market, it's a good option to have lunch in the neighborhood at a good price.

A contemporary cuisine that revisits South Asian-inspired dishes, this results in strikingly tasty shrimp dumplings, a refreshing papaya salad and a must-try braised beef. At lunchtime, businessmen and ambassadors (the American embassy is just a stone's throw away) frequent this bright establishment; in the evening, the place is taken over by groups and the atmosphere becomes noisier. In short, not the ideal address for a romantic dinner, but if you like good food, the choice is difficult.

The neighborhood is no stranger to good Asian cuisine, and here's one we really like. Here, we feast on the Vietnamese specialties that have made the reputation of this popular restaurant, which never lets up. A full pot of tea is brought to us the second we set foot under the table, then we warm up with a Tonkinoise soup or a delicious phở. It's fresh and light despite the generous proportions. You can go there with your eyes closed, it's simply good, the service is fast and the prices are pretty low. What more could you ask for?

Coming straight from New York where Raku has two branches, the Toronto facility slowly opened its doors in the winter of 2019. The front end is in Japanese style, as is the interior and its very clean design. The place is small and there is no way to book, so avoid peak hours. The speciality here is the famous udon noodles, which are served in a fish stock (dried kelp, different types of smoked fish such as herring or sardines). Gyozas, a kind of Japanese dumplings, are also recommended.

A little cocoon where oriental decor and subdued lighting create a particularly warm atmosphere. This bar-restaurant offers dishes from various Asian countries; from ramen and baos to egg rolls and poutine revisited, it's a cuisine that dares to mix the specialties of several cultures, for the better. As for cocktails, the flavors of lychee, lemongrass and pineapple radiate from the glasses. Special evenings are regularly organized, such as the Mystix evenings on Friday nights. The real plus: the indoor terrace.

This take-out counter with terrace is next to its big sister, the restaurant Bati Bassac (which is also worth discovering). On the canteen side, a wide range of Cambodian specialties but also from other South-East Asian countries, such as Saolin beef (breaded beef sautéed in an orange teriyaki sauce, sprinkled with candied oranges and flavored with sesame) or Singapore pad (rice noodles sautéed with chicken and shrimps in a curry sauce, cabbage strips and carrot). The pailin and imperial rolls are also excellent. We will go back there!

The fine Indian cuisine is honored here, just like in London or New York, for example. The decor alone is worth the trip, which is inspired by the Mughal Empire, and both the furniture and the wallpaper are handmade in India. On the plate, as everything looks absolutely delicious, we recommend the tasting platters offered in vegetarian or not. Note that Adrak has another branch in Richmond Hill, a little less upscale than this one.

A small institution in the Saint-Henri district, Satay Brothers offers Singaporean cuisine in a long room with a jumble of tables that mix friends and strangers in a general hubbub fed by pop music. On the plate, taste. The satay is excellent, as is the green papaya salad and the laksa soup. The prices are low, but the tapas-like portions will make the bon vivants reorder, to the point where the bill is much higher than the menu would suggest. Nevertheless, a great address if you're in the area.

Above all, The Farsides pays homage to hip-hop culture in every corner of its den, from the decor (mention should be made of the mural featuring Slick Rick) to the background music and the names of the cocktails. On the gourmet side, the cuisine blends Hawaiian and Thai styles, with fish and seafood taking center stage. Everything is delicious, and we're still dreaming of the Hat Yai fried chicken and mango salad. The house cocktails and sangrias are also a must. And since the place is so popular, make a reservation!
