Formerly The Gulch, this famous fish & chips in Bichenot has moved and changed its name during 2022. Inside, a large counter-bar, large tables where everyone sits... and a few places outside where it is good to settle down to enjoy the fresh air and the calm and relaxing view of the ocean. When you visit the Melshell Oyster Shack, you'll have the pleasure of tasting some very good oysters, either gold or silver. It is rare to find such a modern and original café in the Outback so don't hesitate to stop by and try their bagels, quesadillas, poke bowls, cakes with a good coffee or a refreshing smoothie. The name of the café comes from the Gouldian Finch, a small colorful bird that lives all over the Top End but is very very rare to see in the wild. The area around Katherine, especially Edith Falls, is one of the best places in the NT to see it.

Rarely visited by tourists, Darwin's markets nevertheless play an essential role in the lives of Darwinites, who buy their tropical fruit and vegetables here, often sold directly by the growers.
