COMMEMORATION OF THE ABOLITION OF SLAVERY
Go there and contact
Cultural meetings, exhibitions, and shows celebrate the abolition of slavery in Martinique.
Slavery was officially abolished in Martinique on May 22, 1848, under the impetus of freedom-seeking men and women, by Victor Schœlcher, the French deputy who issued the decree putting an end to slavery in the French colonies. Every year, since the evening before, this date has given rise to events, cultural encounters, exhibitions and shows all over the island. An opportunity to find out more about one of the most important and tragic pages in Martinique's history.
