Practical information : Eating out Martinique
Timetable
In Martinique, you get up early and go to bed early. Therefore, in the restaurants, we have lunch from 11:30. Beyond 2 pm, make a cross on lunch . For dinner, it is not uncommon to see restaurants open their doors from 6:30 pm, some of them no longer serving after 9:30 pm. But most often, the service starts at 7pm and usually ends around 10pm (10:30pm-9pm on weekends). On Sundays, many restaurants offer a brunch or buffet lunch and are closed in the evening
Budget & Tips
Prices are often a little higher than in metropolitan France. On the payment side, credit cards are accepted everywhere, as well as American Express. Cash is welcome, which is not the case with cheques, especially those made out with a metropolitan address, which are almost not accepted anywhere
What costs extra
As everywhere in France, the service is included but the tip is appreciated. As for VAT, it is reduced to 8.5% but this rate is largely offset by local taxes such as dock dues.
The local way
In Martinique, we take the time to live... and to serve! Avoid going to a restaurant if you are in a hurry. The wait can sometimes be long, but that's part of the holiday!
Kids
Children are welcomed like kings everywhere in Martinique. Many baby chairs are available and changing tables are also available.
Smokers
The ban on smoking in places open to the public is obviously valid in Martinique.
