After an act of the National Council of the Slovak Republic of 20 October 1993,1 September was established as a public holiday. It commemorates the day of the Constitution of the Slovak Republic of September1, 1992, announcing the separation from its Czech neighbour in 1993. The Constitution is the legal regulation that defines the rights and freedoms of citizens as well as the organization and separation of political power (legislative, executive and judicial) of a country.
