Read moreThe International Sami Festival on February 6 celebrates the first meeting of the Sami National Council in Trondheim in 1917. More than 100 Sami from all over Lapland gathered to discuss common issues. On this occasion, Sami culture was celebrated throughout Lapland, in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. The official Saami flag is raised, the colors of which are those of the traditional costume, and the circle of which symbolizes both the sun and the moon. The official anthem, Sámi soga lávlla,was written in 1906 by Isak Saba.
