It is the equivalent of "Mardi Gras" for Icelanders, although some would say that it is above all a good opportunity to enjoy a variety of savoury dishes! This feast day is indeed an ode to food, as delicious dishes made from salted meat, peas and cabbage are eaten to satiation.
