The RSPCA is the world's oldest animal charity. It dates back to 1824 and became a Royal Society, approved by Queen Victoria, in 1840. The society denounces cruelty to animals and lobbies for protective legislation. It offers veterinary care at reduced cost, subject to certain conditions. It also offers animals for adoption. The Society has branches in every county in the UK.
