Read moreSince 1916, Nathan's Famous, Coney Island's hot dog king, has been holding a giant hot dog eating contest on National Day. The record is held by a certain Joey "jaws" Chestnut, who in 2021 managed to swallow no less than 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes! In fact, it's the world record. In the women's category, New Yorker Miki Sudo won in 2020 after swallowing 48 hot dogs. Unique and kitschy!

Read moreCorgi Beach Days are held three times a year: in early April, late June/early July and late October. It's a meeting reserved for the corgi breed, the Queen of England's dogs. The event is held at Huntington Beach or Rosie's Dog Beach (Long Beach) in summer. Over 600 dogs take part. In April, a costume contest is organized, as well as a parade of corgis in bikinis. What a show! All proceeds from these events go to Queen's Best Stumpy Dogs Rescue.
