Tangier's iconic bookshop, founded in 1949 and frequented by writers in love with the city such as Tennessee Williams, Jean Genet and Paul Bowles, has also been a landmark for Moroccan authors such as Mohamed Choukri and Tahar Ben Jelloun. Under the management of Rachel Muyal, it became a literary center of international renown until the late 90s. A quartet of French and Moroccan buyers took over the bookshop in 2023. Their ambition is to restore the bookshop to its former glory with a host of events.

The first implantation of the Fnac on the African continent! 3,000 m ² spread over two floors. The store has a "Fnac it" space dedicated to Hi-Tech accessories, a Fnac-café, as well as the traditional record areas, toys, video games, Dvds and technologies (photos, hi-fi, computer, TV…), a show-box (debates, readings, concerts…) and a reading space with view of the ocean.

Located near the ramparts, this mini-bookstore-brocante, with its false airs of Ali Baba's cave, has some nice surprises in store for you. In the midst of the many ethnic objects, novels, cookbooks, beautiful books on Morocco, collections of Berber tales and jewellery (which Josef has been collecting for ages), you can rummage through the piles and perhaps discover - oh joy - a special book to accompany the afternoon on a sunny terrace. The tomcats (if they are still there) bring a warm note to the place.

Just as Paris has its bouquinistes along the Seine, Marrakech has its own along the ramparts near the Bab Doukkala bus station. Affected by a fire in 2020, seven kiosks were able to reopen thanks to a tremendous surge of solidarity across the country. It's a pleasure to wander from one to the next, in search of that special book you've been looking for so long, from an out-of-print edition, whether new or second-hand, which you can buy for a derisory price.

The bookstore is well stocked, especially with textbooks, but if your beach novel is coming to an end, you'll probably find something to keep you going for the rest of your vacation. Office supplies and road maps are also available in quantity. An address where tourists are rare, and where a whole assembly of men is busy looking for your happiness. Correctly arranged and with plenty of luggage facilities, you will also be able to make up for any breakage of your suitcase.

The advantage of a local bookstore is that you can get good advice from a competent professional, who is also an avid reader. This is what awaits you in this very small bookshop located near the main square and which has been open for more than 20 years. Small indeed, but well filled, with a very large choice of books on Morocco, but also novels and paperbacks of your favorite author, if you have forgotten him. You can also find postcards, stamps and small souvenir gadgets.

Bookstore or cafe? Both, sir! As soon as you enter the shop, you will notice many books in English, French or German on the shelves or tables. They are new or second-hand, the choice is wide and the Morocco section (novels, photos, poetry, stories, etc.) is quite large. And as its name suggests, this sign is also a café. So you can curl up in an armchair with a hot chocolate, a juice or even a cheeseburger without forgetting your book... Monday evenings are devoted to quizzes in English, why not ?

This bookstore specialized in art books is discreet, at the end of the alley that leads to the restaurant El Fassia, but full of treasures for those who love art and reading. The welcome is soft and warm. At Menzil el Fan (literally For the art of Men) one finds a plethora of beautiful books, all dedicated to the arts, as its name indicates. But also a large collection on the city of Marrakech, some cultural maps of some Moroccan regions, as well as well-made reproductions of contemporary Moroccan artists.

Games consoles, coffee machines, printers, connected speakers - you'll find it all in this store located between the city center and the upscale Vieille Montagne district. Located on the second level of the shopping center, Virgin offers a complete range of high-tech, gaming and stationery products. More unexpectedly, make-up products are also available. The bookshop occupies one of the spaces, with books in French, Arabic and English, the kind you'd find in railway stations or airports the world over.

Don't panic if you've forgotten your novel at home. Al Mouggar is one of the city's most popular bookshops. Here you'll find everything from classic works to the latest releases from the new literary season, as well as Maghrebi authors to discover, not forgetting the thrillers we're so fond of on vacation. Children are also catered for, with a dedicated children's section featuring a collection of books, comics, games and activities.
