From the airport to the city centre Greece

Athens International Airport is located about 30 kilometers east of the city center. It can be reached in about 45 minutes by cab (€38 during the day, €54 at night), metro (every 30 minutes from 6:45 am to 11:30 pm, €9 per person), bus (every 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on the time of day, 24 hours a day, €5.50 per person) or shuttle (every hour from 9 am to 8 pm, €20). You can rent a car at the airport

Arrival by train Greece

You can go from Paris to Athens by train, in three days and three changes in Zurich, Belgrade and Thessaloniki. Be careful: make sure you get all the information you need before leaving, because the trip through Belgrade is not always guaranteed. Moreover, it is slow and sometimes not very comfortable. For the experience!

Arrival by boat Greece

You can make a stopover during a cruise in the region. Otherwise, to go to Greece by boat, departures are from Venice, Bari, Ancona or Brindisi with an arrival usually at the port of Patras, 200 km from Athens.

Public transport Greece

Athens is very well served by metro, train, streetcar and bus. The public transport network has been significantly improved for the 2004 Olympic Games. From the airport, you have access to the fast train or the metro. Fares are attractive, especially with the tourist package which includes a round trip to the airport and three days of unlimited public transport (€20). Children travel for free up to age 7, then at a reduced rate. Double-decker tourist buses, of which there are many in Athens, are an ideal option to discover the city and its main monuments and other sights in a few hours. Choose the ones with multiple stops. The different colors correspond to the different companies. For the rest of Greece, including the islands, buses are the best option. They are punctual, cheap and popular. The intercity bus company KTEL covers the whole country. Ferries are widely used to connect the islands.

Bike, scooters & co Greece

If it can be pleasant to ride a bike in the Cyclades, at least in the off-seasons, it is not very safe to visit Athens on two wheels. As for the scooters that were made available for rent some time ago, they did not last long.

With a driver Greece

You can easily find a yellow cab in Athens: they are easy to find and numerous around the tourist sites. Make sure that the meter is activated. The rates in the city are not very interesting. For a 10-minute ride, it will cost you about 5 €. However, the packages from the airport are more interesting than the meter. If you want to book a cab for a late night out or in a place where there are few cabs, you can use the Beat-Ride app

By car Greece

Upon arrival at Athens International Airport, you will find several car rental companies. Your French driving license is sufficient to drive in Greece. To make a parking slot: put on your hazard lights, it is better understood than the flashers.

Accessibility Greece

The polemic around the accessibility to the Acropolis is current. The defenders of the heritage revolt against the installations carried out in 2021 which denature the site. At the same time, the defenders of the rights of the people in situation of handicap insist on the insufficiency of these equipments to the Acropolis or still to the airport of Athens which keeps some difficult accesses.
