Practical information : Going out The Azores
Timetable
On the archipelago, it's not the party like in Lisbon, and informed partygoers will soon find out. That said, people don't go to bed especially early, at least not in summer. They chat in the squares, in the cafés, in front of the television, in the gardens. Islanders love to have barbecues, especially in the lookouts along the coast, where there are sometimes adequate facilities, or in nature parks. So don't expect to go to bed at dawn (although this is always possible), but rather take the time to look around you, sitting at a café terrace, and meet other people who like to engage in conversation.
Budget & Tips
Entrance to discotheques is often free. Inside, you can expect to pay €1 for a beer, €2 to €4 for a glass of wine and from €5 for a cocktail.
To be booked
No need to book your disco nights!
Night transport
Public transport is not necessarily very developed during the day, so at night you can imagine... There are few, if any, buses in the evenings and at weekends. If you go out, your options for getting home will be your rental car or a taxi!
Age restrictions
Legally, you have to be of legal age and therefore at least 18 years old to enter a nightclub.
Smokers
Since 2015, the anti-smoking law has been tightened in Portugal and therefore in the Azores: smoking is banned in public places, including electronic cigarettes. And since January 1, 2021, smoking has also been banned in spaces where food or drink is served, i.e. specifically in bars and restaurants.
