Art and crafts

Maasai objects. The multicolored beaded jewels are particularly appreciated, although they are made exclusively for tourists (they are nevertheless still traditionally worn by the Maasai, Turkana, Samburu tribes...). One can also find very finely beaded calabashes, as well as other tribal objects (spears, shields, fly swatters...)

Sisal baskets. Kiondo baskets are often woven by old Kikuyu women. There are all kinds and sizes. You can find them in any market. The most beautiful (and therefore the most expensive) are made of baobab bark fiber

Objects made of soap stone. These carved objects (animals, chess sets, ashtrays...) in pastel colors, from the Kisii region, are very popular. The best place to buy them is the town of Kisumu (on the shores of Lake Victoria)

Makonde carvings. These beautiful ebony carvings are native to southern Tanzania. Unfortunately, there are many by-products. The real makonde sculptures are quite expensive, so it is better to go to Tanzania where the prices are more affordable

Contemporary art. Kenya is a destination known for its savannahs, but the country is also full of artistic and cultural treasures. Numerous art galleries have opened in the capital in the last 10 years, testifying to the effervescence of the local contemporary art scene
