10 km from Karen and 23 km from downtown Nairobi, the small town of Ngong is the starting point for a beautiful hike in these famous hills. There are seven lined up one behind the others. The top summit is 2,460 meters. This small mountain range is classified as a forest reserve, covering an area of 21,000 km ². And it's on these hills that Denys Finch Hatton, Karen Blixen's lover, is resting. Walking along the ridge, you will have a view of Nairobi and its surroundings on the other side of the Rift Valley. In clear weather, the landscape is sumptuous. You can go there by taxi or matatu to the village of Ngong Hills, or to the south, from Kona Baridi.

This huge isolated granite rock resembles, in a much smaller form, Australia's famous Ayer's Rock. You can get out of your vehicle and climb to the top of this monolith to enjoy the exceptional view. A water point below attracts a multitude of animals in the dry season. Be careful, it often happens that some lions rest carelessly in the brush around the rock.

Ol Pejeta is well worth a couple of days/night inside the reserve to explore and soak up the atmosphere. However, for the fast paced traveller and those who do not have the budget to stay, there is the option of a guided day tour. This includes an early morning sunrise game drive, a visit to the chimpanzee sanctuary, a picnic lunch in the bush or lunch at Morani's restaurant, then in the afternoon a visit to the rhino sanctuary and, if time permits, a final game drive.
