MIDA CREEK
A protected wilderness area to observe a multitude of sedentary and migratory birds, and many aquatic animals
It is a protected wild place, absolutely magical. A large bay of 32 km², surrounded by mangroves, where an exceptional fauna has developed. One can observe a multitude of sedentary and migratory birds (marabouts, flamingos, herons, kingfishers, terns...) and many aquatic animals that live in the tangle of mangrove roots (crabs, shrimps, crayfish, oysters, various species of fish...). It is also in the heart of the mangrove that the young coral begins its existence, before the high tides carry it out to sea, on the reef where it can proliferate. Walking along the banks, you may come face to face with a monitor or a mongoose. Different species of monkeys and antelopes also live around the bay. Finally, near the mouth, experienced divers can visit huge underwater caves haunted by enormous groupers. A boat trip at the end of the day, when the setting sun transforms the colours of the water and the sky, remains one of the most beautiful ways to discover the bay. We can't recommend you enough to explore the bay by kayak: many small channels and passages through the mangrove make the trip so enchanting. Stand up paddling (SUP) is also very popular. Most of the big hotels organize excursions. But you can also contact directly the community (Mida Creek Conservation Community Group) with the coordinates that we indicate you.
