Inaugurated in 1951, GUM is an excellent example of Stalinist architecture: columns in marble, chandeliers and frescos. Visiting this wonderful shopping centre is like making a trip in the past. At the entrance, a woman with a scarf on which the word Информация is marked ("information") informs the clients. You will find all kinds of merchandise, including kiosks with souvenirs. Do not miss if you want to dive into the Soviet atmosphere. Adjacent to the GUM is the Tsentralnyi supermarket. On the first floor, a café where you can eat a drink and pastries, standing or sitting on the stools in front of the window. It is a very popular place, especially among the Bohemian youth of the city.
