VOLOVITCH RESIDENCE (ПАРКОВЫЙ-ВОЛОВИЧЕЙ АНСАМБЛЬ ВОЛОВИЧЕЙ)

Places associated with famous people to visit

The magnificent residence of the Magnat magnat, Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, was built in 1779 on the plans of Italian architect Giuseppe Sacco. It is located on a small hill and consists of three parts: a central building and two side pavilions. Surrounded by a park with small artificial lakes, it is a fine example of baroque style, even though the influence of classicism is already seen. In the Soviet era, it was transformed into a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients. Since 2005, she has been abandoned.

CHÂTEAU DE MIR (ЗАМОК МИРСКИЙ)

Castles to visit
3/5
1 review

Situated at the entrance to the city, Mir Castle appears on the lake, surrounded by a pretty park. Its elegant, majestic silhouette dominates the town, which is separated by a watercourse. The construction of the castle began between 1522 and 1527, when Mir belonged to Prince Yuri Ilyinich. In 1568, he returned to the Radziwill family and finished construction with an Italian park. The exterior of the castle has four impressive towers 25 metres high. The fifth tower is the main entrance to the castle. It was built in front of the old road leading to Vilnius, the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The upper part of the ramparts and towers is made of bricks, planted according to a Gothic decorative motif. It is possible to climb on the south-west tower, which is also the best preserved. At its summit, there is a breathtaking panorama of the town and the countryside around it. On the north side and east of the castle stretches the palace, Renaissance style. After the war of 1812, the castle underwent a long phase of decadence, linked to the death of the last Prince of Mir, Dominique Radziwill. In 1891, the castle was bought by Prince Nikolaj Svjatopolk-Mirski, who began the restoration work and built a small chapel and a family cave. After 1939 the castle was completely abandoned. During the Second World War, it even welcomed the ghetto of the city. In the early 1980 s, restoration works were initiated, they will last until 2013. Mir Castle is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

LAC DE SVIR' (ОЗЕРО СВИРЬ)

Natural site to discover

In the west of Lake Narač, Svir Lake is far less tourist and completely devoid of host infrastructure. In the surrounding area you will find only forests, small villages and the countryside at a loss of sight. The landscape here is delightful, even poetic. The small village of Svir is dominated by St. Nicholas Church. Thanks to two domes, you can distinguish a tiny wooden church not very far away. The church of the Trinity De, built by the monks carmélitains in 1714, is worth a visit.

LAKE ОЗЕРО (НАРОЧЬ NARAČ)

Natural site to discover

For an overview of the beauty of this lake, visit the village of Passynki on the east coast between Narač and Miastra lakes. From the lookout next to an obelisk erected in memory of the supporters who died during the Second World War, an unforgettable panorama of Lake Narač opens. With its 41 km of coastline and a surface of 80 km 2, this lake is the largest in Belarus. Its coasts are flat, usually sand, and thus rich in beautiful beaches surrounded by wood. Here you can bathe about 100 days a year, the water is crystal clear and in July its temperature is on average 19 ° C. In the north-eastern part of the lake there is a small romantic island. The location is very tourist and rich in hotel facilities, especially in the seaside resort of Narač. Please not confuse this station with the village of Narač, located a few kilometres from the lake. On the beaches you can rent bicycles, boats, catamarans and everything necessary for water skiing.

THE MOUNT OF GLORY (СЛАВЫ СЛАВЫ)

Site of archaeology crafts and science and technology

Located 20 km east of Moscow, on the motorway leading to Moscow and the airport, this imposing 70 m monument dominates the countryside around Minsk and is visible from a distance. Inaugurated in 1969 to glorify the victory of the USSR on Nazi Germany, it was erected on an artificial hill built using the land brought here of Soviet heroes, villages liberated by the Red Army and the main battlefields. On this hill rises a obelisk composed of four bayonets symbolizing the four fronts opened by the Red Army to liberate the country. Beside the obelisk is a ring decorated by the faces of soldiers and supporters and by inscriptions to the glory of the red army. From the top of this hill opens a beautiful panorama on Minsk and its countryside.
