Getting around by bus and coach Brazil

From the centre, take a bus from the small bus station of Praia Grande or from Avenida Beira Mar, near the José Sarney bridge. Beware, some buses that go there make a 1 hour detour through the São Francisco district.

Belém

Costa Verde Transporte is a bus company which, as its name suggests, serves the Costa Verde as far as Paraty, via Mangaratiba and Angra dos Reis on the way. This reliable and serious bus company offers several departures daily, every day of the week to the Costa Verde resorts. However, remember to book in advance on the site, as the buses are very often full for these tourist destinations, especially at weekends and for the holidays. Buses, like many intercity busses, can be taken from the Rodoviaria Novo Rio.

Viaçào is a bus company specialized on the Costa do Sol (Buzios among others). The main cities of this very touristic part of the State of Rio are served from Rio de Janeiro or Niterói: Arraial do Cabo, Araruama, Búzios, Cabo Frio and Saquarema. When you arrive in Rio or leave Rio to take the Viação company, you must go to the Rodoviaria Novo Rio in the northern zone. From 10 to 15 departures per day depending on the destination and the season. Check the timetable (which can change) on the company's website.

Connections to Corumbá (7 hours, approx. R$ 123, about ten buses a day), Cuiabá (13 hours, from R$ 135, numerous daily connections), Ponta Pora (5 hours, approx. The buses that take turns at the rodoviaria allow connections within the state and with the country's metropolises. Among the destinations:

Poconé/Northern Pantanal. Company: TUT. Duration: about 3 hours. Less than 10 buses/day.

Campo Grande. Several companies, including Andorinha, Eucatur, Motta, Nova Integração and Viação São Luiz. Duration: 12/13 hours. Many daily departures.

Chapada dos Guimarães. Company : Viação Rubi. Duration: about 1h30. About ten buses/day.

Brasília. Companies: Expresso São Luiz, Andorinha or Eucatur. Duration: about 20 hours. Less than 10 buses/day.

There is no train station in Rio de Contas, but in Livramento, about 10 km away. You have to take a taxi to get to Rio de Contas.From Salvador: with the company Novo Horizonte. Approximately 11 hours of travel.During the holiday period, it is better to buy the tickets in advance, because the demand is great. The solution in case there is no more room is to buy a ticket to Brumado, vitoria da Conquista or Ituacu, and then take another bus to Livramento.

Located 1 km outside the city. Buses available to downtown. Direct buses from BH with Viação Sandra (www.viacaosandra.com.br - 1h15 ride, R$ 29). From Ouro Preto, no direct bus, change in Ouro Branco. This information is important, because often tourists make the round trip in the day. Numerous destinations in the interior of the country: São Luís (12 hours with Transbrasiliana), Fortaleza (25 hours with Guanabara), Santarém via Maraba (the last two thirds of the journey, after Marabá, are on an impassable track during the rainy season. Bus company.

The transport company Viaçao Aguia Branca provides connections from Porto Seguro to many destinations in the state of Bahia and other Brazilian states. As with other public transport companies, Porto Seguro's geographical location makes connections to the Brazilian metropolises long.

Bom Despacho (ferry to Salvador): departure at 6:20 pm (check in advance). Count 10 hours of travel.

The TIP (Terminal Integrado do Passageiros) combines the rodoviária with the metro terminus, making it easily accessible. Bus journey times between Recife and some of the Nordeste's metropolises and secondary towns are reasonable for those who are sensitive to their carbon footprint.

Salvador: by bus with the Itapemirim company, from 160 to 180 R$ depending on comfort.

Natal: with the Progresso company, R$ 40 and a 5h15 journey

Fortaleza: 4 buses a day with the Guanabara company (13-hour journey, between 160 and 250 R$)

From TIP to downtown: by metro. R$ 4.25.

Rota Transportes is a bus company that serves Itacaré. This bus line provides connections between Itacaré and Ilheus. The two cities are mutually very well served. Indeed, whatever the tourist season, there are departures almost every hour between 6am and 8pm, in both directions. The journey takes about 2 hours. They also operate on the Itacaré-Porto Seguro line as well (one bus a day in both directions that leaves Itacaré at 1:20 pm and arrives at 9:20 pm, and leaves at 10 am from Porto Seguro)

Two buses of the Real Expresso company connect Lençóis to Salvador and Salvador to Lençois every day. They leave Lençois at 8:30am and 10:30pm and arrive at 3:50pm and 4:20am. From Salvador to Lençois, they leave at 1pm and 2:20am and arrive at 7:20pm and 4:40am. There are urban legends about "road cutters" on the night trips, but this seems to be a myth. If the night trip allows to avoid losing a day in Salvador or in the Chapadas, the arrival at 4am obliges to warn the pousada so that one can be welcomed.

Since 2011, Fretcar has been operating from Fortaleza to Jericoacoara. The bus departs from Rodoviária, passing along Beira Mar Avenue (opposite the Praiano Hotel) and the airport. The journey takes between 5 and 6 hours. On arrival in Jijoca, passengers take a seat in a converted truck, which will take them to Jeri. Departure times may vary.
