Founded in 1839, it has a circulation of 100,000 and is considered the country's main newspaper of reference. It is liberal and conservative. Its economic supplement Gestion is also a good source and on Saturdays the magazine supplement Somos. El Comercio is owned by the large conservative group of the same name, which owns 80% of the newspapers and several TV channels: 20 print publications, 17 digital media and 3 TV channels. During the 2021 presidential campaign, it published many articles critical of Pedro Castillo.
