This celebration commemorates the beginning of the armed struggle. On that same date, in 1961, a group of eleven Myanmarese led by Hamid Idris Awate attacked a police station in the western part of the country. Hamid was the first to draw on the forces of the Ethiopian government. This feast is celebrated by all Eritrean diasporas around the world.
