TEŠANJ
Read moreLocated on a small road 15 km south of Doboj. Its fortress, also in height, is in a remarkable state of conservation and restoration. Very important, the castle is a fortified town whose first documents are dated 1461, when, until 1476, the city alternately passes under Turkish and Hungarian influence. Until that time, Tešanj was one of the seats in the Kingdom of Bosnia and the residence of Duke Kotromaniç, a member of the royal family. Started by the Illyrians and then by the Romans and the Slavs, it was finished by the Turks in 1703. It remains one of the finest castles in Bosnia and the towers have their roof again.
Many other strong castles, of lesser importance, have been built in the region, you will discover them in a turn or a mountain, sometimes in full nature, symbols of the past not so distant.
