For more than 20 years, this small, friendly neighbourhood bookshop, nestled in the heights of Montmartre, has been welcoming beautiful souls and offering beautiful literature. The favourites are put forward, as well as those of the regulars of the place. It is also difficult to resist the pleasant atmosphere that reigns in the evening, during meetings with authors. Generally speaking, one comes here to a place that is a little out of time, and that is good news. We highly recommend it.

COUVENT SAINTE-CÉCILE - GLÉNAT

A place apart in Grenobloise history, the convent Sainte-Cécile and the adjoining chapel were built in the seventeenth century to shelter the religious of the Bernardines. After being transformed into a cinema theater, a bar dancing, in theater, suffering some damage, the place regains its original beauty to host the head office of the famous Glénat publishing house, but still an exceptional library comprising more than 20,000 works from Jacques Glénat's personal collections and the catalog of Glénat editions. The Convent, a wonderful place to visit with a guide of the tourist office - in group or in individual - and a library that can be consulted on the site. Architecture, culture, literature: everything is gathered in one place for our greatest pleasure.

A nice bookshop, that the Petit Futé team likes very much in the heart of the 20th arrondissement of the capital. The small entrance looks a bit like the one of an old cinema, and when you enter the place, what a nice shock: books everywhere, very long shelves, easy to access. The choice is very wide (literature, school, human sciences, comics...) and your most difficult research will not remain without answers. You have here a fast ordering service, and an offer of research assistance, very practical when you are a little lost.

Spiritual and physical foods are combined here around an interesting concept, a stone's throw from the Opera. In this bookstore imagined by Jean-Martin Dutour and Christophe Baudry, from the Baudry-Dutour estate in Chinon, you will find many works: beautiful books, comics, novels, magazines... And all of them have one thing in common: their relationship with gastronomy, wine or more generally with Touraine. But you can also choose beautiful bottles here since the store offers all the wines of the Baudry-Dutour house (AOC Chinon, AOC Touraine, IGP Val de Loire). In addition to this hybrid and original concept, Les Saisons regularly offers dedications, meetings and tastings in a friendly atmosphere.

An easy plan, but a practical one when you want to wander around looking for a book without really knowing what you'll like. Without advice, but with time on our hands and plenty of shelves to browse while the Fnac prize list is presented to us. It's true that the famous French retailer needs no introduction, even though it has changed a great deal in over half a century of existence. Fnac has been present in Rennes since the mid-1980s, and boasts a sizeable books section right in the middle of the Colombia store. A leader in its field, the chain offers thousands and thousands of references in all areas: literature, comics, coffee-table books, guidebooks, graphic novels, Zen books, travel books and more. The range is generally geared towards the general public, with the emphasis on bestsellers. But some of the most motivated booksellers select their favorites: all you have to do is ask, and the advice is top-notch. You'll also find video game demonstrations, a seating area, a wide range of video, audio and computer equipment, and a brand-new range of quality household appliances. And let's not forget the ticket office on the first floor, with gift boxes and special offers. A temple of entertainment well worth a visit.

Close to the University Lyon 2, Terre des Livres naturally offers a large selection of books in the humanities. But the journey has only just begun in this small-scale, artisanal bookshop where the offer is impressive. In this cosmopolitan district, there is a wonderful collection specialising in the Maghreb, the Arabic language and the African continent. The other treasure of the place and the clever plan for small budgets are the 10,000 or so second-hand books sold at low prices. Beautiful encounters with authors and booksellers.

A hybrid place as we like! This independent bookshop-ceramic workshop-tea room was born from the initiative of Margaux and Guillaume who merged their respective passions to create this unique place. Here, the books are the subject of a very particular selection for the pleasure of all. From children's books, comics, to essays and novels, Fracas offers an alternative vision of life. The ceramics workshop, for its part, hosts initiations, production and sale of creations. And the lounge area, your living room! A nice place

UNITHÈQUE

Specialized bookshop

A must for science students in Tours, as a bookstore specializing in the subject, the Unithèque broadened its horizons a few years ago. Since 2017, it has welcomed the collections of the former Boîte à Livres de l'Etranger, which specialized in foreign language books. If we still see anatomy or biology books in the front of the library, inside, the habits have changed. The shelves of the two rooms are still well stocked, but more varied, with medicine but also methods and novels in English, Spanish or Italian. To find your way around, ask for advice, you will be well informed, and we can even order the book if necessary.

LIBRAIRIE LA CITÉ DU VENT

General bookshop

Located in the upper town, near the square in front of St. Peter's Cathedral, La Cité du vent bookshop offers a fine selection of books to discover in a serene atmosphere.

It is one of the too few independent bookshops in Cantal, where you feel at home and where you can (re)discover classical or contemporary writers at your ease.

The literature section is full of essentials, from Olivier Adam to Zola, and you can also stroll among the new items placed on a cabinetmaker's piece of furniture, or browse through the history or regionalism sections to satisfy your curiosity.

The bookseller, discreet, will probably invite you to continue your visit at the back of the bookshop, in a small cosy niche where it hosts exhibitions of photographs or paintings according to her favourites. A large youth and comic strip section completes this ensemble, which is very pleasant to the eye and the ear, because the layout of the space of this bookstore is also a promising whisper: it is the breeze of the literary adventure that can be heard there!
