In 2012, a new official classification system was put in place that allows campsites to display a number of stars. This system, deployed from 1 to 5 stars, corresponds well to modern quality requirements and remains the only classification that positions campsites. The stars are awarded according to three criteria: equipment (surface, cleanliness...), services (wifi, languages spoken...) and accessibility and sustainable development. Of the total number of French campsites, approximately 7,600, nearly 25% are 2-star campsites. This is an opportunity to stay in high-end tourist regions at an affordable price, such as the campsites in Biscarosse, La Rochelle or even Saint-Jean-de-Luz. How to find your way around? Follow the guide!

What can you expect from a 2 star campsite?

If the 5 and 4 star campsites are luxury campsites, even very luxurious, which raise the campsite to the rank of open air hotel, and the 3 star campsites remain quite luxurious establishments, with the 2 star campsites we are in the category below. Nevertheless, this classification assumes quality facilities. By choosing a 2 star campsite, you are generally assured of good value for money for affordable stays without the risk of unpleasant surprises. All in all, 2-star campsites are comfortable, mid-range accommodations with some accessible services: playground for children, Internet access in common areas, etc. As for a 1 star campsite, the accommodation surface is 70 m².
