It is your very vision of camping that dictates the choice of your tent. Because if you like glamorous camping, you probably won't appreciate doing without a bit of comfort in a tent. For those who love bivouacs and adventure and who like to be on the move, it's probably best to choose a light, practical and easy to erect model. Find out what the main criteria are that you should look at closely.

The criterion of capacity

First of all you need to choose a tent big enough to accommodate all the campers. If you are going with the family most of the time, it is better to opt for a family tent with a capacity of 4 to 6 people. It usually consists of two bedrooms and a central communal area, similar to the Laredo GT camping tent, which is sold for 299.99 euros. This allows parents to isolate their children from their parents and provides privacy for everyone. Are you travelling alone or in pairs? Don't bother with a family model and choose instead a light and compact one like the 2 Seconds Quechua tent (sold at 50 euros). It is an ideal model to accommodate two campers with comfort, unless you want to enjoy several rooms under your shelter. The 4-person tents will then be more suitable.

The shape of the camping tent

When it comes to tents, form also plays an important role. There are four main types:

The tunnel tent, which is both spacious and easy to erect. It is characterised by its long shape and often has space for storing your equipment. It is also very wind resistant, but not self-supporting. It requires full guying to hold it in place.

A dome tent is usually self-supporting, i.e. it stands upright without help. It is therefore very easy to set up and is wind resistant.

The tipi tent surprises with its pyramidal shape, which is reminiscent of the traditional habitat of the Amerindians. The interior space here is only one room and its height is dependent on a single pole in the centre. This makes it possible to stand upright and enjoy a spacious and pleasant room. A good example of this is the Tipi Trigano Cherokee 350, which is sold for 132.99 euros.

The Canadian tent is the most traditional and the favourite of bivouac lovers. It is characterized by its lightness, its double roof to protect against rain and its triangular opening.

The comfort and convenience of your camping tent

To allow you to have a good night's sleep and rest, a few comfort criteria should also interest you. For example, you can choose a model equipped with a floor mat. However, you may prefer a tent with panoramic openings so that you can enjoy the landscape around you. This is the case with the Coleman Octagon 6 to 8-person tent, which not only has a dome shape but also has 360-degree openings. This also improves the ventilation of your shelter. Sewn seams can also be essential. These are called sealed seams. The tent is then completely airtight and protects you effectively against rain and UV radiation, such as the Hewolf Dome Pop Up model (sold for 139 euros). If your need is more occasional, a classic and less expensive model will probably be perfectly adapted.

Finally, there are light and very practical inflatable tents, which are models of choice for those who like to move their bivouac. The Trigano Missouri inflatable family tent (sold for 438.99 euros) allows you to take advantage of this comfort. Simply inflate it here and in a few minutes you can enjoy a spacious tent. When folded up, it takes up very little space and weighs very little.

Choosing your camping tent according to its use

As you will have understood, the choice of your tent takes into account both your needs (number of beds, comfort, shape, etc.) and the conditions in which you will use it. If you are planning a hike and/or trek, you will have to set it up and take it down many times, but you will also have to carry it on your back for several kilometres. You must therefore be careful to choose a model that is light, easy to assemble and disassemble and not very bulky.

On the other hand, if you plan to spend your summer at the campground and pitch your tent there, you should be more interested in comfort. The space available in your shelter, the presence of a floor mat and the number of rooms will be essential points for you to consider.

You must also take into account the length of your stay. If you only plan to spend a few nights, you will not really have any constraints when choosing your tent. If, on the contrary, you plan to sleep in your tent for several weeks, think about choosing a model with a frame to ensure good stability, but also with a canvas that is resistant to the vagaries of the weather. This will ensure that you will spend dry nights. In this case, you should choose models with a double wall. This feature prevents condensation from forming inside your shelter, ensures good ventilation of the tent and protects you from both wind and rain. You should also pay attention to the wind resistance of your tent.

There are many criteria to consider when choosing your camping tent. Weight, ease of assembly and dismantling, capacity and comfort, size, resistance to climatic hazards... So many points not to be neglected when it comes to equipping your tent.
