This 7-day tour is designed for travelers who enjoy exploring safari parks and rainforests, visiting two of Rwanda's main national parks. Akagera National Park for safaris and boat rides to discover savannah wildlife, and Nyungwe National Park for chimpanzee trekking and a walk on the canopy, a suspension bridge offering a breathtaking view of the forest. Pick-up, tour of Kigali & transfer to hotel
Depending on your arrival time at the airport, our English/French-speaking driver/guide will pick you up at the airport. Afterwards, you'll set off on a city tour of Kigali, where you can explore sites such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Kigali's largest local market, Kimironko, Nyamirambo, the district where Kigali as a capital began, and many other sites of interest to travelers. Afterwards, your Lion Safaris driver-guide will take you to one of the city's best restaurants for lunch. After lunch, you'll be taken to your hotel for check-in, dinner and overnight.
Transfer to Akagera National Park
Steps: Parc National De L'Akagera
In the morning, after breakfast, your driver-guide will pick you up and drive you to Rwanda's Eastern Province, home to Akagera National Park. On arrival, you'll check in at the park reception desk, then continue to your hotel for lunch. After lunch, the driver-guide will take you on a safari in the southern part of the park, where you can observe animals such as zebras, antelopes, buffaloes, birds and more. Afterwards, you'll enjoy a boat trip on Lake Ihema, the park's largest lake, for a sunset visit, where you can see hippos, crocodiles and many species of water birds. After this experience, you'll be taken to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Full-day safari in Akagera National Park
Steps: Parc National De L'Akagera
After breakfast, your guide will take you on a full-day safari in Akagera Park. You'll have the opportunity to see many wild animals, including giraffes, elephants, lions, buffalos, antelopes of various species, birds, zebras and many more. During your safari, the driver-guide will choose the best spot for lunch. After lunch, you'll continue your safari before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
Steps: Parc National De Nyungwe
In the morning, after a late breakfast, you'll check out and be picked up by your driver-guide, who will take you to Rwanda's southwestern province, via Kigali to Nyungwe National Park. On arrival in Kigali, you'll take a lunch break before driving back to Nyungwe, where you'll check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Chimpanzee trekking
Steps: Parc National De Nyungwe
After an early breakfast, you'll set off on the chimpanzee trek. Nyungwe is a vast mountain rainforest of over 1000 km², home to 13 species of primates, over 275 species of birds and 100 varieties of orchids. After the trek, you'll return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, relax before dinner and overnight.
Canopy Walk
Steps: Parc National De Nyungwe
You'll wake up to a late breakfast, then your Lion Safaris driver-guide will pick you up and take you to the park reception, where the Canopy Walk begins. You'll walk across this suspension bridge, located at a great height, offering spectacular views of the forest. After this experience, you'll return to the lodge to enjoy a relaxing afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay follow.
Back to Kigali
In the morning, after breakfast, you'll check out and the driver-guide will take you back to Kigali. Depending on your flight time, you'll be dropped off at the airport or at your hotel. If your flight permits, you'll have the opportunity to visit the Royal Palace Museum of Rwanda, which preserves the country's history, before continuing on to Kigali.
