Arrival in San Jose

Steps: San José

Arrival of your international flight, welcome by your driver and private transfer to your hotel. I'll be there to welcome you and give you your vouchers, a map of Costa Rica, access maps for each hotel and my advice.

Your choice of :

Overnight stay in a Costa Rica Studio hotel in a standard room with breakfast. www.costaricastudiohotel.com. In the large village of Santa Ana, 20 minutes from San Jose. More lively than downtown San Jose, which empties out after 7pm.

Overnight at Hotel Presidente, standard rooms with breakfast. www.hotel-presidente.com. In downtown San Jose. I don't recommend walking around downtown San Jose at night.


From San Jose to Tortuguero

Steps: Parque Nacional Tortuguero

Departure around 6 a.m. from your hotel in your lodge's minibus. Drive through the Cordillera Central and Braulio Carrillo Park.

Around 7:30 am breakfast.

Continuation through banana plantations and by boat from La Pavona pier to your lodge. Lunch at Turtle Beach Lodge. Afternoon visit to Tortuguero village and beach.

With supplement: Hotel Manatus. Small structure offering excellent comfort.

Steps: Parque Nacional Tortuguero

After breakfast, take a guided boat tour to observe the animal life in the national park with your guide. See caimans, otters, howler and spider monkeys, toucans, sloths and many birds. Lunch at Turtle Beach Lodge. Afternoon free to enjoy the hotel facilities and canoes.

Dinner and overnight at Turtle Beach Lodge.

To Boca Tapada

Steps: Boca Tapada

Breakfast and return by boat to La Pavona and then by road to Guapiles, where lunch is included.

At 1pm, arrival at the restaurant and handover of your rental car.

Drive north to the Caribbean plain. You will pass through Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, Pital and El Saino. From Pital to Boca Tapada, the road passes through numerous pineapple plantations.

From Boca Tapada to Volcan Arenal

Steps: Parque Nacional Volcán Arenal

Drive to the Arenal volcano. You'll pass through Pital, Muelle and La Fortuna.

Depending on your accommodation, you can spend the afternoon discovering the Arenal Volcano National Park, the Arenal Observatory Lodge nature reserve, the Eterno de los Ninos nature reserve or the Arenal 1968 reserve, where you can access ancient lava flows and a viewpoint, www.arenal1968.com.

Steps: Parque Nacional Volcán Arenal

Includes: 9 a.m. access to the Arenal volcano suspension bridges (Sky Adventure). A 4-kilometer hike through the jungle, interspersed with bridges. Some suspension bridges are over 100 meters long, others over 70 meters high.

Day 10

To the south of Nicoya Peninsula

Continuation to the south of the Nicoya Peninsula. You'll pass through Nicoya and then along the Gulf of Nicoya via Jicaral and Paquera. At Paquera, head for the ferry and Organos beach.

Overnight at Hotel Vista Las Islas, deluxe room overlooking the Nicoya golf course, with breakfast. A very pleasant establishment in the heart of nature, overlooking the Nicoya golf course and its islands, and only 10 minutes from the ferry. You can ask the hotel to organize a night out to observe the bioluminescence phenomenon.

Southern Nicoya Peninsula

Steps: Montezuma

Free day to enjoy the beaches of Gigante, Quesera and Curu. Also Tortugua Island, where you should go early in the morning to avoid the visitors arriving from Puntarenas at 11am.

You're also close to Cabo Blanco National Park and Curu Nature Reserve. Cabo Blanco National Park is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Optional (Hotel Vista Las Islas or Tango Mar): evening kayak excursion to observe the phenomenon of bioluminescence.

Overnight at Hotel Vista Las Islas, deluxe room overlooking the Gulf of Nicoya, with breakfast. Steps: Punta Uvita

Departure from your hotel.

8:30 am, arrival at Paquera ferry terminal.

9am, departure of the ferry to Puntarenas and crossing of the Gulf of Nicoya.

10:30 am, ferry arrives in Puntarenas.

Continuation to the central Pacific coast via Puntarenas, Caldera, Jaco and Manuel Antonio, Quepos, Dominical and Uvita

Your choice of :

Overnight at Hotel Plaza Yara room with breakfast. In Manuel Antonio.

Overnight Hacienda Baru pool room. 4 km north of Dominical with its own nature reserve and activities such as zip-lining.

Overnight Yaba Chigui in the hills above Ojochal.

Or with supplement: La Cusinga Lodge.

In Manuel Antonio, the small, much-frequented National Park with passable beaches. In Dominical, Uvita the Marino Ballena Marine Park for marine mammal watching.

Humpback whales are present opposite Marino Ballena National Park and north of Drake Bay on the Osa Peninsula from June to October and from December to January, February.

Steps: Manuel Antonio

Recommended: at 8:30 a.m., boat trip to Marino Ballena National Park to observe marine mammals, including humpback whales.

Afternoon at leisure on the central Pacific coast. We recommend the Hacienda Baru nature reserve and the beaches of Ventana and Pinuela. There are also numerous waterfalls in the hinterland.

Return to the Central Valley via Jaco and Orotina. As international flights often leave Costa Rica in the evening, you can enjoy your morning on the Pacific coast.

Return your vehicle to the rental agency.
